Chris Merante has been a successful high school English teacher in the Greece Central School District for over twenty years. In that time, he has earned awards and praise from his colleagues and students. His efforts were recognized in 2008 when students voted for Chris to be the keynote speaker at commencement. The ceremony was held at the historic Eastman Theater in front of an audience of three thousand people. Chris shared his views on life with the graduates by using humor and humility.
Throughout his career, Chris has taught Creative Writing, Media Literacy, American Literature, British Literature, College Writing, Shakespeare, Drama, Poetry, Reading Remediation, and Film Appreciation at various grade levels. He also currently serves as a contributing writer and editorial director of St. Patrick’s Magazine, a church publication that is the only one if its kind in New York State. Chris earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary English Education while graduating Magna Cum Laude from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Literacy while graduating with honors from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. Chris currently lives in upstate New York with his wife, Rita, their sons, Nicholas and Andrew, and twin daughters, Anna & Lana.
